What's in a Name?

Updated: Mar 20

Most of us who have struggled with the naming of a child or a pet, a business or a project know that what’s in a name is incredibly important. A name tells us who or what someone or something is and what it represents and how it connects to family or mission or place.

For a while now the Board of Advisors for the Shallowford Family Counseling Center (SFCC) have been studying the mission, the programming and the name.

Much has changed and so as we embrace the changes and the direction of the counseling center, our process has brought us to a name change. We deeply value the history of the SFCC and are grateful for all the people who have grown it and supported it through the years. The reality is that the Center’s mission has evolved, and it needs a name that reflects the changes. Thus, our new name represents connection and mission and place. This name represents who we are and what we do.

The Shallowford Center for Mindful living,

a place for contemplative practice, deep listening and compassion.

As we move forward, the Shallowford Center for Mindful Living (SCML) will provide opportunities for contemplative practice, ways to engage in listening, programs that allow our community to think and engage with spiritual depth and compassion.

Kay Stewart and Robby Carroll will continue to provide the leadership for the Center. We look forward to all that lies ahead. We hope you'll join us!
